Leopard sculpt
I'm a professional Illustrator by trade but I find that every so often I get the urge to make something dimensional.
I guess it goes back to the early years when I used to make dioramas for my Gamorra toys.
This Leopard is the most recent thing that I just finished making.
He's inspired by drawings in my sketchbook. You can see them in the background.
He's made of aluminum foil, wire, MDF for the base, and Super Scupley. He's about 6 inches tall.
He's painted with acrylics and will be protected by a coat or 3 of a matte finished sealer.
I like the way he turned out so I'm sure I'll do more cats and other animals in the future.
Let me know what you think of him.

He's gorgeous! I like all the different textures you've got going on, both with the sculpey and your paint techniques.
Love it! Your sketches in the background are great too - will you be using them in a childrens book or something? Curious about what you used for the base, MDF?
Debra,
MDF is Medium Density Fibre board.
You get it at home improvement stores.
It's solid, has no grain, and can be shaped.
It cuts easily on my scroll saw so I like to use it.
To make the base for this sculpture, I cut out a piece of MDF in a organic shape, then used a utility knife to roughly round off the top edges, then I drilled holes through it where the 3 feet would touch so that I could run the armature wire into the MDF and Glue it in place.
I think I forgot to mention that I used sand from Los Cabos and a few rocks from the Indiana dunes to make the base texture.
Toooo cool!
this is awesome.
cool critter!
Thank you for commenting back on the materials you used for your tiger sculpture. I am trying to forge my way into the childrens publishing arena, and I am always torn between creating realistically and sort of cartoonish (if you call it that). I'm not sure if I have a style all my own going on yet. Your critiques on my blog would be very much appreciated.

I have been interested in this theme for a long time and it was insulting for me that during development of technologies, I still search for the information offline. With the advent of your site I have plunged with all my soul into Internet.
